There are lots of exciting projects and challenges for you and I hope you will have a huge amount of fun learning lots of new skills!

MRS MATTHEWS / MRS SMITH / MRS CORBY: We are very lucky that Mrs Matthews, Mrs Smith and Mrs Corby will be working with us in Year 5!

MRS ROBINSON: Mrs Robinson is our Sports Coach and will be working alongside Miss Rowell and Miss Jeffree during one PE session a week.

MR SILLS: We are very lucky that Mr Sills will be joining us again in September to teach music one half term each term. We will get our first sessions after October half term.

Miss Rowell

Miss Rowell is one of the Year 5 teachers, working alongside Miss Jeffree. She is in charge of leading PE for the school and is very excited to be taking children to various sporting competitions throughout the year, including girls football, Gymnastics, Cross Country and Sports Hall Athletics.

In her spare time Miss Rowell loves to go to the gym and play sport, particularly netball. She enjoys travelling, especially to sunny places! As well as this, Miss Rowell loves to spend time with her friends and family!

Make sure you pop by and say hello!

What we are learning about...

Autumn 1  Year 5 – Space Invaders

Our topic last half term was 'Space Invaders' where we looked forward to the challenge of sending sending our eggonauts into Space! Alongside this, we learnt about the history of space, including finding out about the first people (and creatures) sent in to Space! We learnt about our Solar System and identified how the planets orbit the sun, as well as investigating how night and day are created.

Autumn 2  Year 5 – Lights! Camera! Action!

This half term our topic is LIGHTS! CAMERA! ACTION!

During this topic we will be using Stop Motion to create our very own animations. Whilst creating our animations, we will be looking at camera angles, sound, sound effects and lighting.

In English we will be focusing on Film narrative, Modern fiction and Modern classic, along with digital literacy. We will be exploring the history of film and television and learning about the famous film composer, John Williams. Science this half term will revolve around properties and changes of materials, so be prepared for lots of scientific experiments!

Get ready to get your groove on in PE during our dance and gym lessons; Learn about Buddhism in RE; Brush up on your French speaking skills; Become an E-Safety Guru in Computing and create digital images and sculptures during our art sessions.

We have a busy term ahead with lots of fun and exciting activities. We can’t wait to start!

Homework consists of maths, topic and spellings and needs to be handed in on Mondays. Spellings will be set on a Tuesday and tested the following week. Your Topic and Maths homework is set on a Thursday. I would also suggest you try and read as much as you can at home, I would love to hear all about the books you have been reading.
