Welcome to WJS Year 3! There are lots of exciting projects and challenges for you and I hope you will have a huge amount of fun learning lots of new skills!

In Class KR we are very lucky that Mrs Blackburn will be working with us every morning and Mrs Lofthouse will also be working across Year 3 in the afternoons!

Miss Rowell

Miss Rowell is one of the Year 3 teachers. She is in charge of leading PE for the school and is very excited to be taking children to various sporting competitions throughout the year, including girls football and High 5 Netball.

In her spare time Miss Rowell loves to go to the gym and play sport, particularly netball. She enjoys travelling, especially to sunny places!

Make sure you come and say hello!

What we are learning about...

Spring 2 Year 3 – Operation Yeti

In this half term, Year 3 will be hunting for the YETI.  This gives us the chance to improve our mapping skills when we research mountainous areas on different continents.  Our focus is the Himalayas and Mount Everest. Not only will we be looking at survival and safety, but we will be finding out how mountains are created too!

In English we will be reading adventure stories, finding their features and then writing extracts of our own adventure story – you can guess there maybe a Yeti or two in there!  Michael Rosen’s Bear Hunt will be changed when Year 3 create their own e-book Yeti Hunt! This involves looking at the structure of the poem, adjectives and the performance of the final poem.

Our main focus in Science we will be revisiting rocks and solis including how volcanoes are formed. We will also be investigating insulators and keeping liquids and ourselves warm.  The focus will be on our scientific skills and how to complete scientific write ups with a prediction, diagram, method, results and a conclusion.

PE will be Tag Rugby skills such as passing backwards, throwing and catching the ball.  In French we will be learning about the weather.  We hope to be able to use the green screen to create a weather forecast just like on the television and some of us will try and complete the forecast in French.  In RE we will be looking at living life as a Christian and finding out more about the books in the Bible as well as prayer.

Finally, we have an expedition to Hylands Park to show off our survival and tracking skills! Maybe we might even find the Yeti…
