Welcome to WJS Year 5!

There are lots of exciting projects and challenges for you and I hope you will have a huge amount of fun learning lots of new skills!

PEOPLE:

MRS LOFTHOUSE: We are very lucky that Mrs Lofthouse will be working with us in Year 5!

MRS ROBINSON: Mrs Robinson is our Sports Coach and will be working alongside Miss Rowell and Miss Linwood during one PE session a week.

MR SILLS: We are very lucky that Mr Sils will be joining us again in September to teach music one half term each term. We will get our first sessions after half term.

Miss Rowell

Miss Rowell is one of the Year 5 teachers, working alongside Miss Linwood. She is in charge of leading PE for the school and is very excited to be taking children to various sporting competitions throughout the year, including girls football, Gymnastics, Cross Country and Sports Hall Athletics.

In her spare time Miss Rowell loves to go to the gym and play sport, particularly netball. She enjoys travelling, especially to sunny places! As well as this, Miss Rowell Loves to spend time with her friends and family, particularly her kitten Brody!

Make sure you pop by and say hello!

What we are learning about...

Autumn 1  Year 5 – Space Invaders

Our topic this term will be 'Space Invaders' and we are looking forward to the challenge of sending a teddy bear into Space! Alongside this we will be learning about the history of space, including finding out about the first people (or creatures) sent in to Space!

In Science we will focus on the Solar System and identify how the planets orbit the sun, as well as investigate how night and day are created. Our DT will be linked to our science where we will create a Cams linked to space, showing the planets and their order.

English will see us creating non chronological reports, again linking to our topic. By the end we intend to be ‘Masters of the Universe’ with our factual knowledge of space! Then we will be moving on to recounts. We will also be creating instructions this half term based on how to create your own Cams. As always we will also be consolidating our grammar skills.

Get ready to get outdoors and adventurous in PE; Learn about Humanism and the Big Bang Theory in RE; Brush up on your French speaking skills; Become a programmer in Computing and study the work of famous artists, including Vincent Van Gogh during our art sessions.

We have a busy term ahead with lots of fun and exciting activities. We can’t wait to start exploring space with you all!
