Class KR

Welcome to WJS Year 3! There are lots of exciting projects and challenges for you and I hope you will have a huge amount of fun learning lots of new skills!

In Class KR we are very lucky that Mrs Blackburn will be working with us every morning and Mrs Lofthouse will also be working across Year 3 in the afternoons!

Miss Rowell

Miss Rowell is one of the Year 3 teachers. She is in charge of leading PE for the school and is very excited to be taking children to various sporting competitions throughout the year, including girls football and High 5 Netball.

In her spare time Miss Rowell loves to go to the gym and play sport, particularly netball. She enjoys travelling, especially to sunny places!

Make sure you come and say hello!

What we are learning about...

Summer 1  Year 3 – Superheroes.

Is it a bird?  Is it a plane?  No... it is someone from K.R. practising their superhero skills.

We are all suerheroes and have our own strengths.  K.R. will be deciding what their super powers are this half term. We will be finding out all about Hercules, Medusa and the Minotaur as we read Greek myths and then create our own.

Our class story is Medusa and the Gorgons. What can we learn from this myth?

Imagine if your special power was to be able to hear everything.  In science we investigate sound.  How do we hear? How does sound travel? How can I create my own instrument?

These Greek myths take place around Crete and the Greek islands - can we locate them using our mapping skills?

At the end of term we will host our own Greek restaurant making our own food and sharing it with our guests. There will be an art gallery at this event created by us with displays of Greek pots and art work. There may be a Greek dance too!

It is all Greek to me .... well it will be in  M.F.L. as we learn Greek and spell our names using the Greek alphabet.

In P.E we are learning the skills of tennis and preparing for our own tournament 'Writtledon'.  We had better start preparing the courts and the strawberries!

Finally, in R.E. we learn about Hindu Gods and Godesses and compare them with the Greek Gods.  Are there any ways in which they are similar?

Important Information

PE is on Mondays and Wednesdays so please make sure you bring the correct kit to school. Girls, you will need to tie long hair back and remove earrings. We will hopefully be going outside this half term if the weather allows so please have an outdoor kit too.

Homework consists of maths, topic and spellings and needs to be handed in on Mondays. Spellings will be set on a Tuesday and tested the following week. Your Topic and Maths homework is set on a Thursday. I would also suggest you try and read as much as you can at home, I would love to hear all about the books you have been reading.
