Pupil Premium
All members of staff at Writtle Junior School accept responsibility for meeting the pastoral, social and academic needs within the school environment of all pupils and are committed to ‘Narrowing the Gap’ for vulnerable pupils. The pupil premium forms a vital part of that process and the governors reserve the right to allocate the pupil premium funding to support any pupils or groups of pupils the school has legitimately identified as being socially disadvantaged.
Provision will be made through:
• Facilitating pupils’ access to education
• Facilitating pupils’ access to the curriculum
• Additional support and intervention within the school
Reporting Pupil Premium
It is the responsibility of the governors to explain pupil premium expenditure to parents in the form of an annual statement.
Writtle Junior School will publish details of a report online annually. This report aims to detail information on how Pupil Premium is used within school. This report will detail the attainment and progress of groups of pupils who are covered by the premium and the intervention that has been supported by the additional funding.
Reports will also detail the progress made towards narrowing the gap and this will be supported by reported data and academic progress.
Regular reports will be presented on the progress of pupils supported by Pupil Premium to the Governors Curriculum Committee at Writtle Junior School.
Our context and use of Pupil Premium in 2023-24
The funding for this academic year was calculated on 38 pupils (16%) at the October School Census fitting the criteria of:
• Pupils who are FSM Ever 6 and not adopted or LAC
• Any child recorded as Service Child Ever
• Any child recorded as adopted from care (and Residence Order/ Special Guardianship Order)
During 2023-24, we will receive a Pupil Premium Grant of £58,135. We have used it to fund counselling, additional staff to provide intervention programmes (incl. training) for pupils and to subsidise school visits to ensure maximum participation.
We constantly evaluate our provision during the year to ensure it used effectively to accelerate progress in our pupils.

The funding for this academic year was calculated on 41 pupils (16.3%) at the October 2021 School Census fitting the criteria of:
• Pupils who are FSM Ever 6 and not adopted or LAC
• Any child recorded as Service Child Ever
• Any child recorded as adopted from care (and Residence Order/ Special Guardianship Order)
During 2022-23, we will receive a Pupil Premium Grant of £58,835. We have used it to fund counselling, additional staff to provide intervention programmes (incl. training) for pupils and to subsidise school visits to ensure maximum participation.

During 2021-22, we will receive a Pupil Premium Grant of £48,730. We have used it to fund counselling, additional staff to provide intervention programmes (incl. training) for pupils and to subsidise school visits to ensure maximum participation.

During 2020-21, we will receive a Pupil Premium Grant of £49,420. We have used it to fund counselling, additional staff to provide intervention programmes (incl. training) for pupils and to subsidise school visits to ensure maximum participation.
