Admissions Policy

The Schools Planning and Admissions Department at Essex County Council allocate all intake of children wishing to join Writtle Junior School. In the first instance you will need to contact 0845 603 2200 to request a common application form.

If you would like to come and have a look around Writtle Junior School and meet Mr Nick Taylor, Headteacher, please contact 01245 420592 to arrange an appointment.

Looked After Children and children attending Writtle Infant School that request a place at Writtle Junior School will be allocated a place providing an application is received by the closing date.

There is no guarantee of a place for children living in the priority admission area.  In the event of oversubscription any remaining places will be allocated using the following criteria in the order given*:

  1. Children living in the priority admission area with a sibling attending the school or the partner Infant Schools;
  2. Other children living in the priority admission area;
  3. Children living outside the priority admission area with a sibling attending the school or the partner Infant Schools;
  4. Remaining applications.

In the event of oversubscription within any of the above criteria, priority will be determined by straight line distance from home to school, those living closest being given the highest priority.

Exceptional medical circumstances (supported by medical evidence) may override the above (other than Looked After Children).

* For applications received after the start of Year 3 Looked After Children will be given priority ahead of all other applicants
